Attendance – Key Information

Attendance FAQs

The policy of St Mary’s Academy Trust is that requests for Leave of Absence (holidays) during term time are not authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances; this is in line with the policy of the Local Authority.

If you wish to take your child out of school for any reason (not medical), a Leave of Absence form needs to be completed. These are available from the main office.

In line with Local Authority policy, school may apply for a Fixed Penalty Notice (fine) for absences taken in term time.

We know that children become ill at times, and that sometimes they are not able to attend school. If your child is ill, please ring the school and let us know about the illness.

If your call cannot be taken, you can leave a message by pressing 2 when prompted. Please give your child’s name, class and reason for absence. This will then be put on the class register.

Sickness and Diarrhoea

If your child has either sickness or diarrhoea (or both), it is the school policy that they remain at home for 24 hours after the last incidence. If, after this time, you feel that they are well enough to return then they can do. However, please do not bring them back to school if they are still unwell, are not fully recovered or have not eaten etc.

Medical Appointments

It would be appreciated if any medical appointments can be made for before or after school hours. However, we do understand that this is not always possible, particularly of the appointment is at the hospital.

Should your child have a medical appointment, please show the appointment card/letter/text to the main office.

We also ask that you do not let your child get their mark in class then take them for an appointment. This is for fire regulations.
