Welcome to Year One!
Welcome back to school – I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a lovely New Year!
This half term in Year One is set to be fast-paced and exciting!
We will be continuing to develop understanding of place value, working with numbers to 100 and beyond, as well as revisiting adding and subtracting with numbers to 20. We will also explore fractions (1/2 and 1/4), multiplication and division and also tackle tricky measures including time, length and height.
We will begin the half term by writing recounts of the Christmas holidays which will be very exciting for the children to share their experiences over the break. We will then move on to write recounts of ‘The Great Fire of London’ from different perspectives, which the children will learn about during their new topic. We will then explore poem writing and finish the term by looking at non-fiction text writing about the fire service today and in 1666.
We will be whizzing back to 1666 to find out about the Great Fire of London – we will look at what happened, who was involved and what was done to stop the blaze. During this topic, we will make our own houses from 1666 and write diary extracts as if we were there! We will also enjoy a trip to the Sheffield Fire Museum (dates will be confirmed later in the half term) which I’m sure will be very exciting!
As always, please feel free to pop in and see me if you need to – my door is always open!
